Liberty Within Imagination

Clay, Plywood, and Mixed Media

2013

This project was based off of kid’s side-walk chalk drawing. I then placed that in a sculpture’s natural setting, the gallery. The sculpture is expressing itself in its own setting. In my solo show at St. Petersburg Clay Co., this figure became more alive compared to the stillness of the other figures. This interaction with the sculpture and the same setting as the viewer pulls the sculpture out into the viewer’s reality. This was the first time I thought of a scenario outside the figures imagined space. This sculpture is autobiographical. The images on top talks about a relationship I was involved in. The beach scene is St. Petersburg, Florida, which was a stark contrast to the places I’ve lived before. The purple dragon, she is drawing, is the same drawing a friend’s daughter drew when she posed for my reference.
