This woman is paired with ‘Limitations’. She is holding onto the child leash. I have an issue with this tool to control children. I believe this tool is convenient, but perpetuates a disconnection with their child. I try to reinforce this with the phone in her hand, as she is in the middle of a call, and the self-absorbed presentation she puts herself in, hair make-up and exposed cleavage. For the pose, I looked at ballet positions, as I needed the sculpture to be balanced and have her look as if she is trying to balance herself. Her arms are in the “Third Position”. I was thinking of the idea of the irresistible force paradox. What happens when an immoveable object meets an unstoppable force? I made her heavy-set and paired it with the non-mobile flip-flops, as the immoveable object. This is in contrast to the child, as the unstoppable force. The child is in a full sprint, in which gets pulled back by the lease.
