The unclear nature of the who is coming back and how that person’s state opens it up for the viewer to complete the puzzle.

The scene is intended to weigh heavy on the viewer, making them contemplate the life the family, specifically the wife.  Who has all the pressures of life weighing her down while supporting an overseas soldier.

The piece also wants the viewer to empathize with the woman by showing her stress along with the pride of partnering with somebody who is serving our country.
